Band History
The Bigsbys were formed in 2011 when Alex Smith and Russell McClendon (of Alex Smith & the 2 Car Garage) recruited Brad Hobson and Joey Tritico to form the new band.
In late 2011 the band recorded a full length album at Stormy Cooper's studios in Houston, Texas. The album "True Story" features 10 songs written by Alex Smith and produced by Lyndon Hughes. The album is available on ITunes, Amazon and Lonestar Music.
The summer of 2012 was spent promoting the album to Americana, college, and public radio stations and playing a couple gigs per week in Texas and Oklahoma. The band was chosen as a Shiner Records "Rising Star" and played a gig in August at the City Tavern in Dallas along with Stone Roosevelt and American Jenny, where they moved on to the semi-final competition. On Oct. 4 they were selected over Manny and The Gringoderos for the finals.
This came after they completed an Southern/East Coast tour in which they played 15 shows in 16 days in nine different states.
Sound Description
"The best songs seem to come from the people and stories you know best, from the things you've experienced," says lead vocalist and songwriter Alex Smith. "True Story," the new album from The Bigsbys consists of stories that are all a little bit true.
The Bigsbys play southern rock music. It's muddy and blue with a soul-filled center. Gritty, yet easy on the ears. Lead guitarist Brad Hobson brings a bluesy/Indie Rock style to the group that gives the tunes a sound like no other.
