Rangerettes will hold ‘Show Offs’

High kicks and the jump splits have entertained millions.

— The Kilgore College Rangerettes will hold annual officer tryouts at an event called “Show-Offs” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus.

The event is free and open to the public and the media. Fifteen girls are vying for four lieutenant spots and one captain spot.

“It’s like a big pep rally,” said assistant director Shelley Wayne. “The girls have been working very hard and it’s an opportunity for them to perform in front of an audience.”

Wayne said the event is the culmination of a long interview and rehearsal process that the sophomores who are trying out have experienced.

The event will also feature the debut of the 36 new freshmen who made the Rangerette line as well as performances by sophomore Rangerettes.

The Rangerettes were the first of their kind when they began in 1940 as a vision of the late Gussie Nell Davis.

The organization created a unique combination of dance moves and precision drills that quickly earned them the reputation not only as the originators of dance/drill teams, but also as the best in the world.

Known for their high kicks and the jump splits, the organization has traveled around the world and entertained millions.
