FCCA launches “Healing Through the Arts” series

The Fall Session will begin Friday, August 31.

The Franklin County Arts Alliance has announced the creation of a Healing Through the Arts program.

The Fall Session will begin Friday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Center in Mount Vernon. This free opportunity will continue each Friday in the month of September with the final class held October 5, 2012.

The arts have proven to be an effective way to facilitate healing, whether through painting, writing, music, cooking, or countless other art forms.

William Shakespeare once said, "Give sorrow words." With that in mind, the first two sessions will focus primarily on a Creative Healing Journal. The FCAA will furnish a composition book or spiral notebook for this purpose, or participants may bring their own journal.

Some additional supplies will be provided but a suggested list of helpful items is available by calling (903) 434-9130 or emailing franklincountyarts@gmail.com.
