Wedding movies continue at Liberty Hall this week


“The Philadelphia Story” this Thursday at 7 p.m. Starring Carey Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.

— Liberty Hall continues its month of wedding movies with the classic “The Philadelphia Story” this Thursday at 7 p.m. Starring Carey Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart, this is the story of Philadelphia socialites Tracy Lord and C.K. Dexter Haven who marry impulsively. However, they divorce when Dexter's drinking becomes excessive.

Two years later, Tracy is about to remarry the nouveau riche businessman and aspiring politician George Kittredge, who idolizes Tracy. The day before the wedding Dexter shows up for Spy magazine, with a deal to get a story on Tracy's upcoming nuptials.

On Saturday, June 23 at 2 p.m. there will be a special showing of Cinderella. This animated classic from 1950 tells the story of Cinderella, who must endure the cruelties of her wicked step-mother and two step-sisters, Drizella and Anastasia. When her father dies, Cinderella's wicked stepmother turns her into a servant in her own house. Meanwhile, the King determines that his son, the Prince, should find a suitable bride and provide him with grandchildren. The King invites every eligible maiden in the kingdom to a ball, where his son will be able to choose his bride. Cinderella would love to attend the ball, but all goes awry until she meets her Fairy Godmother, who leads her to the ball and subsequently to live happily ever after.
