Keb' Mo' arrives backstage. T-Bone Walker Blues Fest, Linden, Texas, June 22-23, 2012.
LINDEN Keb' Mo' delivered a magnificent performance to a packed house Saturday night at the Music City Texas Hall. It was the final performance of the 2012 T-Bone Walker Blues Fest in Linden.
From the very outset, Keb' used the intimate setting to engage his audience, who for their part, responded with request call outs, shouts of encouragement and other expressions of approval.
My first opportunity to see Keb' was at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival about 10+ years ago. I had recently discovered his 1996 album "Just Like You" and made it a point to be at the Jazz Tent where he performed. Unfortunately, even though I arrived well before the start time, because of the crowd overflow, it proved impossible to get within a half-block of the entrance. In spite of a boiling sun, my companion and I stood outside to listen.
No such problems in Linden. A ticket insured a seat with a great view in the midst of knowledgeable and appreciative fans.
At the end of his allocated time these fans demanded more, Keb' complied with another number, and then, no doubt spurred by the crowd reaction, received the "keep playing" signal from management. And he did, ending nearly a half-hour later with the title track from the above mentioned album.
Keb' Mo' has East Texas roots. His mother is from Hooks, Texas, about 35 miles from Linden, TX, where this was recorded. The T-Bone Walker Blues Fest, 2012. Music City Texas Theater. Presenting Sponsor: Don Henley. Video by Jack Canson, edited by Nancy Canson.
